Quirky Me.

Image
My cousin-in-law, Challis, tagged me to write 6 quirks that I have. Is it completely pathetic that I had to look quirk up to see what it meant? Sure, I had an idea of what it meant... but I wanted to be sure before I wrote 6 things only to find out that I was an idiot for thinking quirks were something else! The web dictionary didn't help because it told me that it was "a V-shaped nick". So, I went to wikipedia and was comforted to know that I was right. "A quirk is an odd habit". So, here goes my 6 odd habits! 1. I smell my hair when I am nervous/anxious. This stemmed from me smelling my blanket when I was a little girl... odd, I know. But hey, isn't that what a quirk is after all?! My dad was the first to point this out to me, and continued to make fun of me (with love of course) anytime I did it by pretending to reach back to non-existent hair on his head and pull it to his nose. Jerry will say "How's my little hair smeller?" when...

I am a woman.

Last night, my church held it's annual General Relief Society Broadcast . For those of you who don't know, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints . "The Relief Society is the largest and greatest woman organization on earth. It was divinely ordained by God to help women: 1. increase faith, 2. strengthen family and homes, and 3. serve the Lord and his children." (Sister Julie B. Beck) I am so grateful to be a woman in this church. I was reminded, while listening to the inspired talks, that to be a woman is a wonderful and divine calling. I have been having thoughts and feelings of inadequacy lately... in fact I think I have been having thoughts and feelings of inadequacy for most of my life! It is just part of being a woman I suppose. However, President Uchtdorf must have known about my struggles and reminded me that I should focus on the things that I have accomplished, and not worry about the things that didn't work out exactly t...

Cold Stone Addict

Image
I have a confession to make. My name is Hil, I am a stay at home mom, and I am addicted to Cold Stone Ice Cream. Phew...I feel better now that it is all out on the table. To be serious, I really love Cold Stone. It is one of those places where I can go and my mood will instantly improve by at least 10 times. I tend to get the exact same thing every time I go. I have two creations that I rotate through, Cookie Doughn't Ya Want Some with Cake Batter Ice Cream and Peanut Butter Cup Perfection. My stomach is grumbling right now just from thinking about them. So, why the confession? Because I just heard the best news that I have heard in a long time. You want to hear it? Make sure you are sitting down. Ok, here it goes... Cold Stone Creamery is holding the "World's Largest Ice Cream Social" tomorrow night between 5 and 8 PM. What does this mean? FREE COLD STONE ICE CREAM! They will be handing out free 3 oz servings of two new creations. This event is in suppo...

Promotin' the Biz.

Hey everyone! I was sitting here trying to think of ways to promote my little blog design shop and decided that the best way (other than the awesome giveaway we had earlier in the month!) was to hand out my blog button. If you like my work and want to help me get the word out about my little shop... please take one! All you have to do is copy the code below and paste it in an html widget on your sidebar. Note that by having one of these buttons will grant you 2 entries (as opposed to only one..) in upcoming giveaways! Thank you for helping promote the biz! ***Due to problems that I couldn't fix...hate that... go to Simply Yours Designs home page and grab either a button or a blinkie! Thanks for your patience and your help!!

I'm too young for this.

Image
Growing up I was always trying to be older than I really was. I remember trying to convince my parents to allow me to get my ears pierced before the age of 8 (which was the age my parents would allow me to get them pierced) and I actually succeeded at this. I also remember trying to find a way around the whole "no dating until you are 16" rule by just "going out" with boys in 4th grade. When I was in elementary I longed for Jr. High, when I was in Jr. High I longed for High School, when I was in High School I couldn't wait for college. I was constantly trying to be older than I actually was. I even got married at a young age. I was 18 when I got engaged (a week before my 19th birthday) and 19 when I got married. I was a mother at 21. It wasn't until this last week when I finally realized that I was too young for something. As I was getting ready for bed one night, I was looking in the mirror while brushing my teeth. I happened to cock my head at jus...

Embarrassing Moment.

Image
Last night our Relief Society had enrichment . I was really excited for it because we had some really fun things planned (I am currently serving as the enrichment leader in my ward). The theme was "Ready, Set, Go" and we had 4 "preparedness" workshops that the women could go to. We had a haircutting class, a humanitarian aid class, a mission prep class, and a cooking class. Our enrichment counselor had purchased some adorable checkered flags (like the ones they have at finish lines in racing) with matching napkins and table clothes. We then had orange traffic cones in the middle of each table with the flags coming out of them and we even had matching orange plates! It really turned out cute. Anyway, on to the embarrassing moment. After dinner we had a short homemade ice cream demo and while the girl was up there giving her "shpeel" I went to get the ice cream so we could display it on the table. Well, I was carrying 3 large tupperware things full ...
