So it begins...

Image
Friday evening was just like any normal evening around our house.  We ate dinner, bathed Little Guy, read some books, said prayer and laid him in his crib.  It wasn't until 10 minutes later when the abnormal happened.   My husband and I were out in the living room , I was working and he was doing homework, when we heard Little Guy's door knob rattling.  We both looked at each other with shock and horror and ran to his door praying it was just his fan rattling the door.   When we opened the door, we saw Little Guy standing right there in front of us.  I couldn't believe it.  He had climbed out of his crib!  I started to half hyper-ventilate half laugh my head off when I realized what had just happened.  I laughed to keep from crying.  What on earth were we going to do now?  Our 20-month-old just seems way too young to be moved into a bed already.   I looked at my husband and realized the same thoughts were going through his head.  We decided to pretend like nothing had happe...

Teva Love

Image
I'm in love... no... I'm obsessed with my black Teva Olowahu sandals .  I have had them for 3 years now (maybe 4?) and have worn them everyday for three summers straight (and even some winter days... in the snow...).  They are the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned.   And that's the truth.   So comfy in fact, that I would even justify wearing my much loved black sandals with brown shirts.  I was told one time while wearing such an atrocity, that it was a huge fashion faux pas.  This person obviously  didn't know who they were talking to.   i.e. The biggest fashion faux pas on the planet.  While at the mall the other day I walked past a window that had my favorite sandals of all time in all sorts of different colors hanging there right before my eyes.  So, I waltzed right in and bought a brown pair with some of my remaining birthday money.  No more brown shirt, black shoes wearing for me.  I can't wait to love this pair just as much as my other.   Tha...

Summer Tunes 09

Image
No other season brings me more joy than summer. I love playing out in the sunshine all day with Little Guy.   I love how BBQ is a constant smell in the summer air.   I love the flowers.  Oh the flowers.  I just got back from the most gorgeous nursery I have ever seen.  We went for our enrichment night, and I decided when I grow up I want to own a nursery and work with flowers all day long.   I love talking out on the porch later than usual because the sun doesn't go down until 9:00. I love not having to layer on 10 different articles of clothing just to keep warm.  Speaking of which, I love my capris and short sleeve shirts. I love popsicles, fudgcicles, creamcicles, and ice cream sandwiches.  I especially love seeing them smeared all over my Little Guys face and T-shirt. I LOVE snow cones, and the fact that there is a snow cone shack on every corner. Tiger's Blood and Pina Colada here I come! I love sleeping with the windows open. I love the 4th of July. My hometown can host...

Keepin' it real.

Just a side note, my husband says that this picture does not do the cake justice.  It is much more hideous than that in person.  Today is my birthday.  Happy birthday to me! It has been a wonderful day minus the fact that Little Guy decided to wake up two hours earlier then his normal wake up time, making me get out of bed at a time I didn't want to know existed.   I suppose I could blame this next incident on the fact that I was running on lack of sleep... but in actuality it was probably because I just do things like this.  I decided to make a birthday cake after church and was pretty dang excited about the decision.  My husband took Little Guy outside to play, leaving me with the kitchen all to myself.  I searched my cookbooks and the internet until I found a chocolate cake recipe that 1) I had all of the ingredients for and 2) looked good enough to eat. I found one, mixed up the ingredients, poured the batter into my round cake pans and added some chocolate chips just for fun....

Ode to Mom

Image
I realize this is a few days late, and the second post for today... but I couldn't pass up an opportunity for a shout out to my mom.  My mom has always been one of my best friends.  I was one of those girls in high school who just wanted to stay home on the weekends to hang out with my mom (and dad... but more on that in June). Once I moved out of the house, my relationship with my mom only grew stronger.  I now talk to her several times a day, whether is it on google chat, Skype, or on the phone.  She is always there to answer my silly questions like "How long is too long for hamburger to be in the freezer?" or "What's the best way to get urine out of Little Guy's crib sheets?" or "Do I need a pot with holes in the bottom for my herbs?".  She is my own personal google, in human form. Growing up, I remember my mom saying things like "I'm turning more and more into my mother each day".  Well guess what?  Now I am the one saying th...

Relaxation defined.

Image
It has just been plain crazy around here ever since we got back from our trip.  I finally have time to sit down and write up a post.  Last week we were able to head south to visit my parents.  It was such a beautiful and relaxing trip!  They pretty much live in paradise (minus the ocean, but who needs that when you have a pool?).   It was at least  90 degrees every day so we took advantage by staking out our spots next to the pool and not moving for the rest of the trip (except to eat and go to the bathroom of course...)  Little Guy loved it.  I think he is part fish, really.  He has this strange obsession with water and was in heaven being able to swim to his heart's content. I laid out each day trying to justify my actions of putting myself at risk for skin cancer and at least using SPF 15... but secretly really wanting a tan.  I did get a little sun and ran to the store to buy this stuff in hopes that it will stay around a little longer until the next time I am able to lay out. ...

Catching up.

The only problem with taking a completely beautiful and relaxing vacation down south for 5 days is that you come home to a house (and inbox) FULL of work.  I will be answering e-mails, unpacking, doing laundry, reading the 131 updates in my google reader, catching up on designs, and installing blog templates all. day. long . I am hoping to find time to write about my amazing mom for mother's day (a little late) and the gorgeous trip we just came from.  Until then... hi-ho hi-ho it's off to work I go...
